Mogadishu, Somalia, October 29, 2023 – The Ministry of Communications & Technology and the National Communications Authority (NCA) have jointly organized the inaugural Somalia National Cybersecurity Forum under the theme “Securing Somalia’s Digital Future.” The event, held at Jazeera Palace Hotel, brought together dignitaries from the Government, Communications Sector, Banks, and Civil Society Organizations, marking a significant milestone in Somalia’s commitment to enhancing cybersecurity measures.
During the event, the Forum featured a distinguished lineup of speakers and panel sessions, providing a platform for in-depth discussions on the challenges and opportunities in securing Somalia’s digital landscape.
The Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Mr Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, emphasized the importance of cybersecurity in his opening address: “The NCA recognizes the inherent risks in an increasingly interconnected world. We are committed to working closely with all stakeholders to develop robust cybersecurity frameworks, foster information sharing, and enhance technical capabilities to ensure the resilience of Somalia’s digital ecosystem.”
The Minister of Communications & Technology, H.E Jama Khalif, commended the Forum and further reiterated the significance of the platform, stating, “As we embark on the journey of digitization, it is essential that we prioritize cybersecurity to protect our nation’s critical infrastructure and secure our citizens’ digital future. The First Somalia National Cybersecurity Forum provides a platform for collaboration and dialogue to strengthen our efforts in this crucial area.”
The Somalia National Cybersecurity Forum is an essential step towards creating awareness and developing a proactive cybersecurity strategy and roadmap for Somalia. By bringing together stakeholders from the Government, Communications Sector, Banks, and Civil Society Organizations, this Forum aims to help Somalia be more prepared to address the evolving cybersecurity landscape.
