Radio Frequency Overview

The National Communication Authority (NCA), Somalia is responsible for planning and managing the radio frequency spectrum in Somalia. It is responsible for compliance with licensing requirements and investigating complaints of interference to services. The scope of the NCA role includes spectrum planning, frequency allocation, apparatus licensing; and frequency assignment and coordination.

APPLICATION PROCESSES

STANDARD APPLICATION FOR RADIO FREQUENCY (RF) EQUIPMENT

A standard Radio Communication Application form is applicable for the following services: Aeronautical, BroadcastingMaritime, Amateur, base/mobile, simplex, experimental, trial/test, demonstration, paging, message handling, relay, private and communal repeater, telemetry, point-to-point and point-to-multipoint links (below and above 1 GHz), alarm monitoring, load management, message handling, radio trunking and satellite (uplinks VSAT, SNG).

  1. The applicant must complete and submit to the Authority an application form for a radio frequency spectrum license. The submission of the application must be accompanied by proof of the non-refundable payment of the applicable application fee.
  2. The applicant must be a holder of a services license from the relevant ministry/Authority.
  3. A copy of a company registration certificate
  4. Current spectrum utilization.
