Mogadishu, October 09, 2023 – The National Communications Authority (NCA) has officially launched its Spectrum Monitoring Operations Center (SMOC), a significant step towards enhancing spectrum management and ensuring efficient and adequate telecommunications services in Somalia.
The launching event, held at the NCA’s headquarters, was attended by the Minister of Communications and Technology, the NCA General Manager, the NCA Deputy General Manager, and other dignitaries.
SMOC will serve as a central hub for monitoring and analyzing spectrum usage, identifying unauthorized or illegal activities, and resolving interference issues promptly. With its advanced monitoring capabilities, the Center will provide real-time data and insights to support decision-making processes, ensuring the efficient allocation of spectrum resources.
Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, The NCA General Manager, expressed his excitement about the Spectrum Monitoring Operations Center launch. He highlighted, “This Center will revolutionize monitoring and managing our spectrum resources. With the rapid expansion of the country’s telecommunications infrastructure and the proliferation of wireless technologies, effective spectrum monitoring has become crucial to ensure seamless connectivity and prevent interference, thereby enhancing the quality of services provided to consumers.”
The Minister of Communications and Technology (MoCT), H.E. Jama Hassan Khalif, also emphasized the importance of the Center in facilitating the growth and development of the telecommunications sector. H.E Jama stated, “The Spectrum Monitoring Operations Center launch is a significant step towards achieving our vision of a digitally connected nation. This Center will enhance spectrum management capabilities, leading to improved quality of service, increased innovation, and enhanced competition in the sector.”
By establishing the Spectrum Monitoring Operations Center, the NCA reiterates its commitment to creating an enabling environment for the telecommunications industry, fostering innovation, and promoting fair competition. The Center’s launch marks a significant milestone in the NCA’s ongoing efforts to enhance spectrum management capabilities and ensure a seamless communication experience for all citizens.
