Amman, Jordan – 3 February 2025 – The Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Mr Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, participated in the Regional Development Forum for the Arab States (RDF-ARB), organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Amman, Jordan. The forum brought together government officials, regulators, and industry leaders to discuss digital transformation, regulatory developments, and strategies for advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through technology.
During the forum, Mr Mustafa participated in Roundtable One: “State of Digital Development and Trends – Challenges & Opportunities.” He shared insights on Somalia’s progress in digital transformation, highlighting the country’s advancements in telecommunications regulation, mobile financial services, and digital infrastructure development. He also addressed challenges related to expanding connectivity, digital literacy, and the need for greater investment in Somalia’s ICT sector.
On the sidelines of the forum, the Director General had a meeting with Adel Darwish, ITU Regional Director for the Arab States. Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between the NCA and ITU, identifying priority areas, and setting up a work plan for 2025 to support Somalia’s digital transformation and regulatory initiatives.
