(Mogadishu, August 11, 2024) — The National Communications Authority (NCA) celebrated a historic milestone after receiving three international ISO certifications from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
The ISO certifications received by the National Communications Authority are:
ISO 9001:2015 – Quality Management System (QMS)
ISO 27001:2022 – Information Security Management System (ISMS)
ISO 27701:2019 – Privacy Information Management System (PIMS)
The ceremony was attended by different stakeholders, including members of parliament, cabinet ministers, governors, general directors, and representatives from telecom operators, universities, banks, and civil society organizations.
Mr. Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, Director General of the National Communications Authority, noted: “Achieving these international ISO certifications was a rigorous process, signifying a major success for the Authority. It reflects our unwavering commitment to efficiency and integrity.”
He further highlighted, “These certifications align with the National Communications Authority’s strategic objectives from 2023 to 2027, which include strengthening our management capacity and operational standards to meet global benchmarks. This achievement will bolster the confidence of our stakeholders, ranging from the public to telecom operators.”
The Minister of Communications and Technology, Mr. Mohamed Adan Mo’allim Ali, commended NCA’s achievements. “I am profoundly proud of the National Communications Authority for securing three ISO certifications in a year. This milestone underscores the Authority’s relentless dedication to enhancing regulatory practices in telecommunications and technology in Somalia,” he said.
These distinctions establish the NCA as the first governmental entity in Somalia to achieve these standards, predominantly adopted by private sector corporations but increasingly relevant to public institutions.
The event concluded on a high note, with attendees expressing their enthusiasm about the NCA’s advancements in enhancing the quality of ICT services in the country.
