(Mogadishu, August 31, 2024) — A high-level delegation from the East African Communications Organization (EACO), led by Executive Secretary Dr. Ally Yahaya Simba, concluded a successful two-day visit to Somalia, marking a significant step in strengthening regional cooperation in the field of communications.
The delegation visited the National Communications Authority (NCA) and the Ministry of Communications and Technology, where they engaged in fruitful discussions with the Minister of Communications and Technology, Hon. Mohamed Aadan Moalin Ali, and NCA Director General, Mr. Mustafa Yasin Sheikh.
During the visit, EACO Executive Secretary Dr. Ally Yahaya Simba praised Somalia’s progress in the ICT sector, particularly noting the affordability of services. “I am impressed with the ICT development in Somalia. By working together as a region, we can jointly advance the ICT sector, benefiting the citizens of our respective countries,” he remarked.
The delegation’s visit also included an introductory meeting organized by the NCA between Somali telecommunications operators and the EACO delegation. This meeting focused on initiating and strengthening cooperation and collaboration between EACO and Somalia.
“Somalia’s membership in EACO presents a significant opportunity for our country. We can leverage the organization’s expertise and support to advance our telecommunications and economic infrastructure,” said Mr. Mustafa Yasin Sheikh.
Dr. Ally Yahya Simba, Executive Secretary of EACO, reaffirmed the organization’s unwavering commitment to supporting Somalia. He stated, “An official invitation from the NCA prompted our visit to Mogadishu, and EACO is fully committed to aiding Somalia in developing its communications and key infrastructure. We are confident that our cooperation will yield tangible results.”
The visit concluded with an agreement to accelerate the collaboration between Somalia and EACO, which is expected to open up numerous opportunities for developing telecommunications in both the country and the wider region.
