Mogadishu, November 15, 2023 – The Federal Communications and Technology Minister, H.E. Jama Khalif, has officially marked the commencement of the construction of the National Data Center in Mogadishu.
This milestone underscores the government’s commitment to advancing technological infrastructure and fortifying national data-related services. The National Data Center is planned to become a beacon of innovation, offering world-leading data storage, recovery, and cybersecurity services. The center aims to elevate Somalia’s capabilities in managing and securing critical digital assets.
Establishing a government data center represents a strategic initiative to consolidate services, applications, and infrastructure. It is designed to facilitate the efficient electronic delivery of government-to-government (G2G), government-to-citizen (G2C), and government-to-business (G2B) services. Through a common platform supported by core connectivity infrastructure and the government information management strategy, the center seeks to enhance accessibility and streamline communication between various government agencies.
Mustafa Yasin, the General Manager of the National Communications Authority (NCA), emphasized the data center’s pivotal role in meeting the demands of Somalia’s rapidly growing digitally enabled society. “This state-of-the-art facility forms the cornerstone of modern infrastructure, addressing the burgeoning need for hosting and digital data processing, ” he stated.
The Minister of Communications and Technology, H.E. Jama Khalif, highlighted the alignment with the Ministry plans: “The National Data Center signifies a crucial step forward in realizing the objectives outlined in our national ICT policy. It is a testament to our commitment to fostering technological advancement and digital inclusion.”
“Today, I am honored to witness the inauguration of the National Data Center. This facility will host all government ICT services under one roof, marking a pivotal moment in our journey toward more connected and efficient governance,” the minister concluded.
