NCA established monitoring center and this center is the central command and control center for integrated network of Fixed and Mobile Monitoring stations in Somalia. And this center is equipped with customized software clients/ tools, integrated with servers of the monitoring sites, for performing operations of all Monitoring sites. Access and intercommunication to all Fixed / TDOA and Portable spectrum monitoring;
- Real time spectrum monitoring and recording;
- Geo-location of sources of wireless transmissions;
- Report generating and printing capabilities, and
- Backup and archive data.
Radio Monitoring center is one of the processes of investigating electromagnetic activities within the frontiers of the country's radio spectrum and, therefore, an indispensable aspect of Spectrum Management. It is one of the ways of enforcing checks and controls on the users of the spectrum. It is also a vital element of planning frequency allocation. Therefore, effective radio spectrum monitoring minimizes the incidences of harmful interference by spectrum users, enhances the security of lives and properties and revenue generation for government. The NCA conducts various spectrum monitoring activities, including:
- Ensuring compliance: Verifying that radio equipment and services operate within the allocated frequencies and according to established standards.
- Detecting interference: Identifying and locating sources of interference that disrupt radio communications.
- Monitoring quality of service: Evaluating the performance of telecommunications networks and services, ensuring they meet the required standards.
- Managing frequency allocation: Developing and maintaining the National Frequency Allocation Table (NFAT) to guide the use of radio frequencies.
Monitoring Systems:
- Fixed monitoring stations: These stations are strategically located to monitor spectrum usage and detect interference.
- Backpack Man-portable spectrum monitoring system: this monitoring equipment are used for on-site investigations and to cover specific areas.
