Type Approval is a mandatory regulatory process overseen by the National Communications Authority (NCA) to ensure that all telecommunications and radio equipment used or marketed in Somalia meets established technical and safety standards. Any device that connects to a public telecommunications network or intentionally transmits radio waves must be type approved before it can be imported, sold, or deployed in Somalia.
Unlike other license categories, Type Approval applications are processed directly by the NCA. Applicants must obtain the required documents, complete the application form, and submit everything via email to the Type Approval team.
Type Approval can be requested by authorized importers, licensed operators, local and international manufacturers, and any public or private organization in Somalia wishing to import or use telecommunications equipment. A separate application is required for each type of equipment.
