Somalia hosts first ITU National Training Workshop since 1991
(Mogadishu, March 19, 2019) Ministry of Post, Telecom and Technology (MPTT) hosted a training workshop on ITU’s Spectrum Management System For Developing Countries (SMS4DC), co-organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) between March 14th to 18th.
Ahmed Boraud, a trainer from ITU, said the objective of the workshop is to build knowledge and skills of participants who can effectively use ITU’s SMS4DC tool for efficient spectrum Management, adding the training is essentially targeted towards the Spectrum Managers and the users of SMS4DC tool.
Abdulaziz Isaq, Director General of MPTT, said this is a historic moment for Somalia’s ICT sector as the National Telecom Institute hosted the first ITU-organized workshop since 1991 when the civil war broke out, highlighting the program will pave the way for more training programs by the ITU in Somalia.
Abdi Sheikh Ahmed, General Manager for National Communications Authority (NCA), stated the training comes at a right time when the country recently established a regulatory body, which is currently undertaking reforms in the sector including spectrum.
Mr. Ahmed noted the training is planned accordingly with emphasis on practical exercises and urged the participants to make use of the knowledge and skills they acquired and keep in touch with the expert on any specific issue being faced while using the software.
“I would like to thank the ITU, particularly the Arab Regional Office, for making this program a reality. We hope ITU will provide us further training programs as we build our human capacity in regulating the sector,” concluded Mr. Ahmed.
